Under the page

Scribsy is an IDE for novelists. Programmers write in tools that understand their code. Scribsy is that kind of tool for a book.

Two kinds of intelligence

Scribsy reads your book in two places. On your own machine, a compact entity model fine-tuned for fiction makes a first pass on every name as you type, and an on-device embedding model maps your pages and your questions by meaning. In the cloud, larger models do the deep reading that follows a world across a whole book, and they run after you say yes. A Private book works with the on-device half alone: it covers the basics, and it goes without the full story bible and the richer help that cloud reading makes possible.

An ontology with a clock

Beneath your prose sits an ontology of your story: its people, places, things and events, and the threads between them. Every fact carries a when. A character can be seventeen in chapter three and married by chapter twenty, and both are true at their place in the book. That's how Scribsy tells a story that changed from a detail that slipped.

Context, gathered every time

Each time Scribsy helps, its intelligence layer first gathers what matters for that moment: the scene you're in, who's in it, what you've already settled about them, and the notes you made along the way. A few right pieces, chosen fresh each time. That's why the help feels like it already knows your world.

More than the sum of its parts

Three things work together. A manuscript stored as structure as well as text. A knowledge system that keeps learning your world. And an editor built the way programmers' tools are built. Classic machine intelligence handles what must be exact, and newer AI handles what needs judgment. Together they do what none of them could do alone.

Built for a book's whole life

A finished draft is the start of a book's life. Scribsy is designed from day one for plugins, so the same understanding can follow your story from the first idea to the finished manuscript, into readers' hands and beyond: publishing, print, audio, games, and whatever comes next. The first plugins arrive after launch.

Taking cues from how minds work

Scribsy's design takes its cues from what cognitive science has learned about memory and attention. Working memory holds a handful of things at once, and a novel holds thousands. Flow breaks when you stop to search, and memory works best with the right cue at the right moment. So Scribsy brings a detail back when it's useful and stays quiet while the words are coming.

Where on-device is headed

Every choice under the page leaves room for one future: Scribsy running entirely on your own computer, fully encrypted, fully offline, with every intelligence feature on, all the time. Two of its models already run on your machine. As models get smaller and better, more of Scribsy comes home.
